Particles is an exhibition in two parts, a culmination of two individuals who took part in the Werkstatt Fotografie 12 month program in Hamburg. Nina Brand & Björn Stahmer each started afresh to produce subjective and compelling photographic projects. Nina Brand embarked on a process to rediscover her creative relationship to photography with an intuitive approach to bridge an existential distance between the interior and exterior self. Drawn to certain scenes and configurations of objects, these fragments build up to convey a bigger emotional and psychological picture. Björn Stahmer is a street photographer but with this project he broke his own rules by way of an experimental process resisting the temptation to make perfectly formed images. Chance and intuition allowed for a more introspective visual meaning in the apparent emptiness of scenes depicted, devoid of people.
